Why We Built This Tool

Hey there! I'm the person behind CompareText.app, and I wanted to share why this tool exists.

A few months ago, I was working on a research project and needed to compare different versions of the same document. I spent hours manually going through pages, highlighting changes with different colored pens, and honestly, it was driving me crazy. There had to be a better way!

That's when I realized that while there are expensive enterprise solutions for document comparison, there wasn't a simple, free tool that regular people could use without signing up for accounts or worrying about their documents being stored somewhere.

So I built CompareText.app. Everything happens right in your browser - your documents never leave your computer. No accounts, no data collection, just a straightforward tool that does exactly what it says on the tin.

Since launching, I've heard from students comparing thesis drafts, small business owners tracking contract changes, and even authors comparing different versions of their manuscripts. It's been amazing to see how people use it!

Why can't I upload DOCX files directly?
DOCX files are actually complex ZIP archives with XML formatting. To properly extract text from them requires specialized libraries that would make our tool much slower and more complicated. Converting to TXT ensures we can give you accurate, fast comparisons every time. Plus, it keeps the tool lightweight and privacy-focused!
Is my data really safe?
Absolutely! Your documents are processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. They never get uploaded to our servers. When you close the browser tab, everything disappears. We literally can't see your documents even if we wanted to - and we don't want to!
Can I compare really large documents?
The tool works best with documents up to about 50-100 pages. For massive documents, your browser might slow down a bit, but it should still work. If you're having trouble with very large files, try breaking them into smaller sections for comparison.
Do you have plans for mobile apps?
The web version works great on mobile browsers! We've designed it to be fully responsive. A dedicated app might come in the future, but for now, just bookmark the website on your phone - it works just like an app.
How do you make money if it's free?
We use Google AdSense to display relevant ads. The ads help cover hosting costs and keep the tool free for everyone. We're committed to keeping the core functionality completely free - no premium tiers or hidden fees.
